The Evolution of Gambling

Gambling is one of the human race’s favorite vices, the perfect way to fly in the face of the moral majority of the time when the rigors of rags to riches are at the same time. Like all good vices, it has existed since the time of the dawn, or at least since the time when Homo Lazy was playing a game of thought without actually participating in it. Inevitably, betting 4 chickens on how many rocks it would take to finish off a shoplifter has grown into a global money-spinner with huge casinos and million dollar bookmaking businesses racking it up across the globe. Swallowed whole by the internet, just barely recognizable by family and close friends.

Betting culture kicked off unluckily and, like pretty much everything else you could think of, in Ancient China. The legal tender suggests that we’ve all been thinking; That money was invented solely to stop early gamblers putting their wives on a stake. Since the beginning of games on wagering, there has been a moral black spot and almost every situs slot online religious text has an ambiguous passage in the baccarat of good and evil. The US has a well-publicized love / hate relationship with the pastime, giving rise to hotbeds like ‘slot tourism’ in Las Vegas next door in Utah Your Average Joe can’t even bet on an NFL game.

Fast forward to Q1 of the 21st century, the gambling industry is growing into something much bigger than those ancient Chinese philosophers imagined. Online poker turned into a sexist, elitist posing competition caused by drunken arguments across the kitchen tables to the English-speaking world of an inclusive and civilized pastime for those quiet nights at home. Coffee and take-away pizza on a purely nightly basis. Better yet, our streets are free as old ladies as they swap the web sites for bingo halls, leaving our towns bereft with the screeching cackle of old.

Sports betting has been a major institution in Great Britain since records began, with none of the same restrictions as the USA, but betting on ‘soccer’ does not have the greatest appeal. Since the move has taken place online, global betting habits are converging and commercial gambling on sports like American football is finally getting the attention it deserves. There is nothing more satisfying than putting your own short-term financial future in the hands of a man who can eat chocolate pudding, unless they enter the 2016 Olympics.

As well as a new level of variety, online gaming is a much safer prospect than the bookmakers’ past; No longer will we have the scour dank alleys put on the USD 50 to spread, or the use of the words “PLEASE DON’T BREAK MY LEGS, I HAVE KIDS TO FEED” again. Most of the sites are fully licensed, accepting all types of legitimate online payment and most importantly you don’t have to leave the hot fuzzy glow of your computer screen. Although I prefer my living room, some purists may want to take their laptop or tablet down to a questionable back street or hang their spouse on a tenth floor balcony demanding payment.

The history of gambling has been long and colorful, with equal parts of glory and misery, but not the first brick on the Las Vegas strip. With more bookmakers to choose from, amazing innovations such as betting on free and competitive deals like signing up for free share money have never been better than a humble gambler. Good luck to all of you and remember, the house is always wins but unlike the house, you might just get laid!
